A change for the better

Date August 8, 2008

Hello lovely readers, Thanks for taking the time to stop by and enjoy our blog. We are announcing a change. We believe it’s for the better. This time last year I began working on House of Harrison, the shop. Yes, it’s really been a year. Sadly, so much has kept me from opening it. In fact, nothing I’ve ever started has taken this long to complete, ever. I went through design changes (multiple), to idea changes and the key thread was the name of the shop. I named it House of Harrison for personal reasons. The name meant a great deal to me. It is special in significance to me.

Yet, I couldn’t get the project finished. Believe me, I would have liked to. Something just wasn’t working for the longest time and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I’d never been this indecisive before and that began to take it’s toll.

Basically, the name, look and general feel of the site never worked for what I needed it to do and be. So, I am not going away. I simply am changing names and putting House of Harrison to bed until further notice. ALL our posts here have been transfered to our lovely new blog, One Charming Blog, which will coincide with our new (coming soon), online store, ShopCharming.com. I hope it’s all super -easy to understand because I get confused explaining it, myself:

Shop Charming and ShopLovely will be the new names for our handmade and designer resale shops, respectively. It’s all so CharmingandLovely. Don’t you think?

Etsy of the Week: La Paperie & Cozy

Date July 31, 2008

Ah, journals. I love them. I especially love a leatherbound, 100 year old looking, 300 page, for my eyes only looking one. Am I alone in this? I think not.

I was tempted to show them in sequence of my favorite authors but I became conflicted because each style is more exquisite than the next.

Enjoy.

Recycled Fabric

Date July 27, 2008

Most people don’t really understand how much waste the textile industry produces. Think about what you could make as a crafter, designer or artist with recycled materials.

The article below is almost a year old but it’s packed with wonderful ideas on how you can recycle your clothing and fabrics.

Recycled Fabric Crafts

If you are a designer or larger business please read up on textile recycling. It may not be a page turner, but it is an eye opener.

If you are wondering what in the world can be made with recycled goods, watch this:

Etsy of the Week: Inspired by Me

Date July 24, 2008

To continue on the Mind/Body theme we’ve got going this week, we wanted to share a very cool Etsy of the Week. Inspired by Me makes great fisherman pants. Lots of us yogis use them as yoga pants- well that’s sort of what they are. They come in tons of colors, too!

Feng Shui

Date July 22, 2008

I don’t really subscribe to the more homogenized version of Feng Shui. There has been a lot of commercialism attached to the concept in the last few years. For me it’s about being mindful of your space and using that space to bring about the changes or differences you seek.

I’ve read my share of Feng Shui books and my very favorite and one that I’ve read and given away repeatedly is Clear your Clutter with Feng Shui. Karen Kingston really gets to the heart of why it’s important to create space in a meaningful matter, what clutter actually does to you and how you can free yourself and improve your physical surroundings and your spirit.

Wooden Jewelry

Date July 19, 2008

Whenever summer comes along, I always think of jewelry that can be worn with any old thing I throw on. Wooden adornment just feels so easy and light.
